• ***Korfball Level 2 Coaching Course*** Want to get involved in coaching your University club. Please see details below of the Avon Tyrell Korfball Coaching Course, taking place over the summer. There are grants available to cover the cost and you may even be able to get finial support from your own University spot departments. 1st4Sport Coaching Course 2017 The Norfolk Korfball Association, in association with Sport Structures is running the 1st4Sport Level 2 Korfball Course. This course is an intensive week of high level skills training, and teaching of coaching techniques suitable for training teams at competition level. The course runs from Saturday 29 July to Saturday 5 August and is held at Avon Tyrrell, a Youth Club Residential Centre, set in beautiful grounds in the New Forest at Bransgore, Hampshire. Facilities include a lake, heated outdoor swimming pool, sports fields, hard courts and its own woods. WHO CAN GO? The coaching course is open to anyone (18 years and over) who is keen to improve their game and acquire coaching skills for teams playing competitive korfball. The people that benefit most will be familiar with korfball and seeking to expand their coaching abilities. However the course has also been of benefit to students at colleges where there is no experienced coach (or players) available. It is also ideal for teachers and youth leaders and people who want to help train players within their club. WHAT’S THE COURSE ABOUT? The course is organised by the NKA and will be taught by top-level coaches who have had extensive experience of playing and training korfball to high levels. The course will include the theory and practice of korfball, rules, methodology, tactics, teaching, game analysis, technique and much more. The course will involve assessments of personal coaching abilities. The referee’s theory examination is included during the week, this is in addition to the 1st4sport coaching course. Usually a great sense of team spirit develops amongst the course participants and at the end of the week there is a game against the Summer Camp team, and a party. There is a little free time and a choice of activities such as archery and canoeing to take part in as well as swimming every day. ACCOMMODATION AND WHAT TO BRING. Participants on the course are well-fed and watered by a team of volunteers who prepare three meals a day. If you have any particular dietary needs or medical considerations, please let us know as soon as possible. Accommodation is in two purpose-built chalets with twin and four bedded rooms and showers. Bring plenty of sports clothes (including trainers and astro-turf boots), sun cream and a torch. If you are prepared to camp, there is a £100 reduction in fees. COST The cost for the week is £685. However, you can apply for a grant of up to £150 to reduce the cost. The fee includes full board and lodging as well as course materials. Please contact Philip Buttinger (details below) for grant details. Please note: there are only a limited number (24) of places available on this course, and these will be allocated to ensure a fair distribution across all areas, so please book as soon as you can. • It is with great sadness that the British Student Korfball Association announce that we have reluctantly accepted the resignation, with immediate affect, of Dave Buckland as the GB Student Squad Head Coach. Dave explained his decision in conversations last week with BSKA President Alan Piper and BSKS Manager John Bagnall. Dave has worked tirelessly in his role over the years and feels now is the right time to move on and focus on other commitments. It has been a great privilege to have Dave as head coach for the last four years and his devotion to the development of student korfball has been second to none. We would like to put on record our enormous gratitude for all Dave has achieved in his role as head coach. It is clear that student korfball in Britain would not be where it is today without Dave's efforts. Dave will continue to work with the BSKA on development and as a trusted advisor for which we are very thankful. We are pleased to confirm that Joe Stirling and Rob Williams will continue in their role as coaches ensuring that the squad still has the best possible preparation in the build up to the BSKA International Invitational Trophy in June. We wish Dave the absolute best for all his future endeavors and look forward to working with him on other projects. Thank you
