University of Bristol Korfball

Korfball is a fast paced, mixed gender sport which involves a team of eight players- four men and four women- attempting to shoot into a 3.5 metre korf post against their defending opponents. Here at the University of Bristol we have an exciting year ahead! With weekly games in the local league, BUCS tournaments across the UK, and a korfball tour to Eindhoven in 2016, there are plenty of opportunities to play korfball competitively. And for those of you who are looking for something more casual, the club hosts general training sessions every Sunday, with plenty of socials throughout the year. All abilities are welcome!

*SECOND TEAM MATCH*

Last Saturday saw our 2s face current top of the league, Exeter City 2s. The game was fast paced from the start with some great goals from Nick, Alice, Lewis and Jamie leading to a tight score line at half time. We continued to fight through the second half with many more goals from the legend, Nuck Main. A naughty girl was attempted – Nick didn’t have a clue what he was doing and Lewis certainly didn’t as he smashed Alice in the face with the ball, but Exeter were so surprised they forgot to mark Alice who popped in a cheeky shot. Despite everyone’s best efforts and amazing match play all round the final score came to 13-7 to them. Well-deserved MVPs to Sam Leaney and Alice Richards. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas!

*FIRST TEAM*

There was no rest for the 1sts after BUCS as they took on 2nd placed Horfield on Saturday. A close match throughout with the score constantly swinging ended even 9 all at half time. The same trend continued through the second half, until Horfield went 2 up with 5 minutes on the clock. Was all hope lost? Were the firsts to be succumbed to our first defeat in the league this season? Sam Hobbs was practically in tears on the side-line shotclocking when Oli Cusack scored to give us hope before Charlie Levett stepped with a stunning goal from the halfway line* to draw us level in the last seconds!! Incredible scenes and our undefeated streak continues. Shoutout to MVPs Clare Watson with three stunners and Josh Lewin’s (reasonably) reliable penalty taking. Have a good Christmas all!

*OK, more like 2/3 metres but madness all the same

*SECOND TEAM MATCH*
Last Saturday saw the second team get their first win of the season! Scoring a total of 11 goals against Bristol City 3 gave a final score of 11-06. With many goals being put up by everyone, we managed to keep the lead we had at the start and even lengthen it. Well-deserved MVPs went to Sydney Jatter and Nick Main, with some great goals from them both!
